TikTok Community Guidelines Strike: What It Means, How Long It Lasts and How to Appeal

A TikTok Community Guidelines strike is a mark on your account that TikTok adds when it removes one of your videos, comments or LIVEs for breaking its rules. Each strike stays on the account for 90 days, and an account that collects enough of them is banned permanently. The first violation is usually a warning, not a strike. Severe violations skip straight to a ban.

That's the whole system in two sentences. This post covers how to check where your account stands, what a strike does to reach, how to appeal, and what keeps several TikTok accounts out of trouble.

What is a TikTok strike?

It's TikTok's way of counting violations. TikTok explains that each account receives a strike based on how serious the violation is, and the strikes are counted until the account reaches the threshold for a permanent ban.

TikTok moved to this system in February 2023, replacing a setup where creators often didn't know how close they were to losing an account. The thresholds aren't public, and they differ by policy and by feature. A few strikes for bullying, for example, count for more than a few for a minor rule.

The first violation is usually a warning. According to TikTok's account status page, the first time your content is removed you get a warning, with a notice explaining why. If that first violation is severe, you get a strike instead.

How long does a TikTok strike last?

90 days. After that it expires and no longer counts toward a permanent ban. It's a rolling window, so an account that picks up strikes faster than they expire keeps getting closer to the threshold.

There's no way to clear a strike early except a successful appeal. If the appeal is approved, the strike is removed and the content comes back.

What does a strike do to your account?

It depends on what was removed and how many strikes the account already has. You might see:

  • The video removed, with a notice in your inbox.
  • The video kept but made ineligible for the For You feed. It stays on your profile, but TikTok stops recommending it to anyone new. See For You Page.
  • A feature restricted for a while, such as commenting, going LIVE or messaging. Feature restrictions have their own thresholds.
  • A notice that the account is close to a permanent ban. TikTok warns creators when they're on the verge.
  • A permanent ban, either from too many strikes or from one severe violation.

Some violations get an account banned on the first offence. TikTok lists promoting or threatening violence, child sexual abuse material, and showing real-world violence or torture among them. It also bans accounts used to get around restrictions on another account.

How do you check your TikTok strikes?

TikTok has a page for it.

  1. Go to your profile and tap the menu at the top.
  2. Tap Settings and privacy → Support → Safety Center.
  3. Tap Account check (shown as Account status in some versions).

It shows your standing, current violations and any restrictions. For the notice behind each one, open your Inbox → System notifications → Account updates.

How do you appeal a TikTok strike?

From the notice itself.

  1. Open the violation notice in Inbox → System notifications, or in Account check.
  2. Tap Appeal.
  3. Say briefly why the content doesn't break the guideline named in the notice.
  4. Submit, and wait for the result in your inbox.

If the appeal is approved, TikTok restores the content and removes the strike. If your account was banned, the ban screen has its own appeal option when you open the app.

Appeal only what you think is a real mistake. A clear violation won't be reversed, and the time is better spent making sure the next video doesn't repeat it.

Why do multi-account operators get strikes?

Strikes come from content, so the risk is in what you post and comment, not in the number of accounts. For people running several profiles, it's usually one of these:

Reposting the same clip across accounts. Unoriginal or duplicate content is a common reason for videos losing For You eligibility, and it ties the accounts together.

Comments that read as spam. The same comment under dozens of videos, or comments that push people to a link, get removed and count against the account.

Captions and links that look like spam or scams. Promises of easy money, "link in bio" on every post, or off-platform links that look suspicious.

Music and footage you don't have rights to. Copyright removals are handled separately, but repeated ones can still lead to a ban.

Trying to get around a restriction. Moving a banned account's content to a new account counts as evasion, which TikTok bans for.

TikTok's rules don't allow fake engagement or automation that games the platform. Automation carries risk, and nothing in this post removes it. What you control is how much of it you take on.

How do you keep several TikTok accounts clean?

Give each account its own content and keep the activity at a level a real person could manage.

Onimator is software that drives the real TikTok app on Android phones, cloud phones and emulators. These are the starting points from its TikTok guides:

Setting New accounts Warmed accounts
Follows per day 5 to 10, rising with auto-increment Raise slowly
Likes per day 20 40 to 60, 50 to 80 once 90+ days old
Comments per day 5 to 15 20 to 30
Delay between comments 5 to 15 seconds 5 to 15 seconds
Unfollows per day Well under 50 Well under 50

Where these live: the Follow, Like, Comment and Post guides cover each tool, and the Timer tab sets active hours. These are ceilings, not targets.

A few habits matter as much as the numbers:

One version of each clip per account. Edit or re-export shared clips so no two accounts post the same file.

Vary every comment. Use spintax or [AI] so no two comments are the same, and keep comments the lowest daily limit of all.

Keep links out of comments. A comment that only exists to send people somewhere else is the easiest kind to remove.

Check Account check weekly. A warning is cheap. Two more strikes on top of it within 90 days are not.

Pause an account that gets a strike. Lower its limits for a couple of weeks and let the strike age out before pushing it again.

FAQ

How many strikes before TikTok bans you?

TikTok doesn't publish the number. Thresholds differ by policy and by feature, and severe violations lead to a ban on the first offence. TikTok notifies creators when they're close to a permanent ban.
