Tinder Shadowban: How to Tell If You Have One, and What Actually Fixes It

A Tinder shadowban is when your account keeps working but Tinder stops showing your profile to other people. You can still swipe, open chats and send messages. What changes is that new matches dry up to almost nothing and messages stop getting answers. Tinder has never confirmed that shadowbans exist under that name, but the pattern is real and easy to recognise once you know what to look for.

This post is written for people who run Tinder accounts as a traffic source: agencies, creators and OnlyFans or affiliate teams working several profiles at once. The signs are the same for a single dater. The causes and the fixes look different when you run ten accounts.

What is a Tinder shadowban?

It's a visibility restriction rather than a ban, the dating-app version of a shadowban. A banned account gets logged out, sees an "account banned" or "under review" screen, and can't use the app. A shadowbanned account looks normal from the inside. The restriction happens in who sees you, not in what you can do.

Tinder doesn't publish how it ranks profiles, but it has said what the ranking is built on. In its own explanation of matching, Tinder says it retired the old Elo score (more on that in does Tinder still use an Elo score?) and now weighs recent activity, who you like and nope, your profile and your location, and that it prioritises people who are active at the same time as each other. A profile that the system decides is low quality or suspicious simply stops coming up in anyone's stack. That's the whole mechanism. There's no notification and no appeal button, because technically nothing was taken away. (If you can't log in at all and see "Something went wrong (40303)", that's a ban, not a shadowban: see Tinder error 40303.)

Shadowban is a user term, not a Tinder term. Treat everything below as observed behaviour, not documented policy.

How do you know if you're shadowbanned on Tinder?

The clearest sign is a sudden drop in matches that doesn't recover. One slow day means nothing. A slow week after months of steady results, on the same photos and the same settings, means something changed on Tinder's side.

The signs that tend to show up together:

  • New matches fall to zero or close to it, and stay there for more than a few days.
  • Messages go unanswered at a rate that isn't normal for the account, including matches who were replying before.
  • "Likes You" stops updating on Gold or Platinum, or empties out entirely.
  • Old matches still work. You can chat with people you matched before the drop. This is what separates a shadowban from a real ban.

Any one of these on its own has a boring explanation. Three or four at once, for a week or more, is the pattern.

How do you test for a Tinder shadowban?

There's no official checker, and any site selling one is guessing. These are the checks that actually tell you something:

  1. Ask someone to find you. A friend inside your age and distance filters swipes until they reach your profile. If they swipe for a long time and never see you, you're not being shown.
  2. Compare against a clean account. Same city, similar photos, fresh account. If the new one matches normally in the same week and the old one doesn't, the problem is the old account, not the market.
  3. Check your old matches. If you can still message people from before the drop, you're restricted, not banned.
  4. Watch it for a full week. Match volume swings with weekdays, weather and holidays. A shadowban is a floor that doesn't move.

A drop in matches isn't always a shadowban. Tired photos, a bio that went stale, moving to a smaller area and simply having shown your profile to everyone nearby all lower matches without any penalty. Rule those out before you rebuild anything.

What causes a Tinder shadowban?

Behaviour that looks like spam or like a bot. For a single dater that's usually reports and copy-paste messages. For operators it's almost always one of these:

Right-swiping everyone. Liking 100% of profiles is the loudest bot signal on Tinder, and it drags down how often you're shown even before anything is flagged. We covered this in detail in why 100% right-swiping kills your Tinder account.

Swiping around the clock. A real person checks Tinder in the morning, at lunch and in the evening. An account that swipes at 4am every night doesn't look like a person, however human each swipe is.

The same opener, over and over. Identical cold messages sent to every match are what spam filters are built to catch. On Tinder, messaging is the highest-risk action there is.

Pushing matches off the app too early. A link or a handle in the first message is one of the most reported things on dating apps, and reports feed straight into visibility.

Accounts that look connected. Several profiles on one network, one device fingerprint or the same photos read as one operator. When one gets flagged, the rest tend to follow. It's the same logic as a ban wave.

Tinder's rules don't allow bots or automated swiping. Any automation on Tinder carries risk, and nothing in this post removes it. What you control is how much of that risk you take on.

Can you fix a Tinder shadowban?

Sometimes. It depends on how deep the restriction is, and the honest answer is that a lot of shadowbanned accounts aren't worth saving.

What's worth trying first:

  1. Stop all activity for 48 to 72 hours. No swiping, no messaging. You want the account's recent behaviour to stop looking like whatever triggered the drop.
  2. Fix what caused it before you restart. Lower the right-swipe rate, shrink the active hours, rewrite the openers. Restarting on the same settings just repeats the result.
  3. Refresh the profile. New photos and a new bio give the account a reason to be shown to people who already passed on it.
  4. Restart slowly. Low volume for the first week, then build back up. Treat it like a new account.

If matches are still flat after two weeks of clean behaviour, the account is probably done. Deleting and immediately recreating on the same phone number, photos and device tends to carry the problem straight over, which is why "shadowban after deleting account" is such a common search.

How long does a Tinder shadowban last?

Nobody outside Tinder knows, and there's no fixed length. Mild restrictions often lift within a couple of weeks once the behaviour changes. Some never lift at all. If you see no recovery after two weeks of clean activity, plan around the account rather than waiting on it.

How do you avoid a shadowban when running several Tinder accounts?

Make each account behave like one person, and keep the accounts from looking like each other. In practice that comes down to a handful of settings.

Onimator is software that drives the real Tinder app on Android phones, cloud phones and emulators. These are the defaults its Tinder guides recommend:

Setting Recommended Why
Percent to Like 40–70% Being selective protects how often you're shown. Never 100%
Swipes per session Random range, e.g. 5–10 on new accounts A fixed number repeats, and repetition is a pattern
Delay between swipes 2–4 seconds, never Min = Max Real people look at a profile before swiping
Active hours Around 7:00 to 22:00, never 24/7 Covers the evening peak without swiping at 4am
Daily cap Low at first, with auto-increment Lets new accounts ramp instead of jumping to full volume
Openers Spintax, the match's name, or AI-written lines No two matches get the identical message

Where those settings live: the Matching tool guide covers the swipe rate, sessions and daily cap. The Timer tab guide covers active hours. The Messaging tool guide covers the drip queue, spintax and [AI] openers.

A few habits matter as much as the numbers:

One identity per account. Separate photos, bios and personas. Several accounts on one phone should each run in their own app clone, which the Overview tab guide explains.

Log in by hand. Onimator never logs into Tinder for you. It automates the account already open in the app, so the login itself looks like a normal login.

Separate networks. Accounts that share one IP look connected. See mobile vs residential vs datacenter proxies for why mobile IPs hold up best.

Earn the link. Move a match off Tinder only after a real back-and-forth. Our post on AI DMs on Bumble and Tinder covers why dating apps punish the Instagram approach.

FAQ

Does Tinder shadowban accounts?

Tinder has never confirmed shadowbans by name. It does confirm that it ranks profiles using activity, likes, nopes and location, and a profile it ranks very low stops being shown. That's what people call a shadowban.

How can I check if I'm shadowbanned on Tinder?

Ask a friend inside your filters to look for your profile, compare your match rate against a fresh account in the same area, and check whether "Likes You" still updates. A shadowban shows up as a week or more of near-zero new matches while old chats still work.

How long does a Tinder shadowban last?

There's no set length. Mild restrictions often lift within about two weeks of clean behaviour. If nothing improves after that, the account usually doesn't recover.

Will deleting my Tinder account remove a shadowban?

Not reliably. Recreating an account with the same phone number, photos and device often brings the restriction straight back.

Can automation get a Tinder account shadowbanned?

Yes. Tinder's rules don't allow bots, and a 100% right-swipe rate, 24/7 activity and identical openers are exactly what gets accounts restricted. Selective swiping, realistic hours and varied messages lower the risk. They don't remove it.
